The Roof Framing Calculator. . .

I thought it would be a good idea to link this blog to the calculator so that there would be a way to leave feedback and comments about it (other then all the emails I get);-).

Feel free to add any options you think would be helpful for future releases.

Thanks,
Joe Fusco.

I'm in the tropics - land of wide overhangs! Mine is just over 3' and your amazing roof calculator didn't accomodate that. Great tool - many thanks.

John,

I'll get a chance to change the setting on the overhang in a few days. Thanks for the comment on the calculator as it helps me better understand the needs of the people who might be using it.

My wife and I are building our house ourselves and your website has been a tremendous help. It's the most thorough we've come across. Your logical & succinct explanations & extensive calculations are nowhere else to be found. Thanks again.

Thanks John,

You can always join my forum or drop me and email with any questions you might have and if I can Help, I'd be glad to.

Best of luck with your house build.

Hi John,

This version of the calculator doesn't do calculations for split pitched roofs at this time.

In the future I plan on making one available.

Let me first say Thanks for the Calulator - Great tool!

Not sure if this has been commented on or not, but the app gives an error if the 'building length' is shorter than the 'building width (span)' - Well that may not always be the case. In my case, I am doing a porch roof that bumps out from the house and length of the roof is shorter than the width....

how come the split roof option does not work

trying to use your program on split roof, but no pull down from menu.

The ads on the right side cover the answers that I need, and there doesn't seem to be any way to close the ads.??

Couple things:
1) What do you mean by 'jack-rafter offset'?

2)Where do you measure 'hip/valley length:actual'? My confusion is that 'hip/valley length:actual' + 'hip/valley overhang' do not equal 'total hip/valley length'.

I use this calculator for an exposed hip roof porch with excellent results. My only (obvious) errors were in the length of the hip rafter tails, luckily concealed by the cornice.
Thanks a lot.

hi joe, i like your online calc. i like gadgets and stuff that is related to framing. I still calculate my rafters the old way but i use a calc also. by the way i did not notice how you measure the jacks, i like to use long point but i know some carpenters use short point.. nice tool, will check on your gazebo update soon. thanks...
